Building energy and indoor thermal environment are two important aspects in green building design. In this paper, the "Red House" which is the architectural practice bases of Zhejiang A&F University's department of landscape architecture, was taken as an example to be designed and renovated. First of all, through the field investigation, it was found that the indoor thermal environment, lighting and ventilation were poor. Then, the “Red house” was modified by the method of placing "box" internal space. Some energy saving renovation measures without changing the main structure of the building, such as insulating, shading, natural ventilation were used to save building energy and make better indoor thermal environment in the "Red House". Finally, the Ecotect software was used to analyze and compare the indoor thermal environment, lighting and building energy consumption before and after design.
