Abstract

The art of Sichuan traditional residential house is a shining pearl among numerous Chinese traditional cultural treasures. As a history book, traditional architecture is a concentrated reflection of economy, culture, architecture and politics in Shu area so traditional residential house in Sichuan is an important component of Chinese traditional culture. “Green architecture” and “sustainable development” that is promoted by people in the twenty-first century is actually a heritage of Chinese traditional architecture concept: “unite Heaven
and Man, let nature take its course”.Traditional residential houses in Sichuan such as Linpan, and the Tibetan and the Qiang's residential houses in western Sichuan all reflect the objective sought after by the development of modern architectures to some extent. Learning from the experiences in the ecological technologies of traditional residential houses has already become an important channel for the development of modern green architecture design. The article, embarking from the realities, conducted field investigations on different traditional residential houses in Sichuan, analyzed the connections between modern green architectures and Chinese traditional residential houses with examples of the construction ways of Linpan’s residential houses and the Tibetan residential houses in western Sichuan, and absorbed the strengths of traditional architectures. On the basis of
induction, it considered new realization ways to re-activate these green elements in traditional architectures with the expectation of providing some reference for modern architecture design meanwhile protecting the quintessence of Chinese traditional cultures.
