In the 21st century, with the rapid increase of the number of motor vehicles in Chinese cities, urban residential
area have also been suffered from a series of problems such as road traffic safety, air and noise pollution caused
by growth of motorized vehicle. New-type of green, low-carbon and smart city will play an important role in
tracking global climate changes. In this paper, based on the international walkable evaluation indexes, such as
green transport supply, the form and structure of district, streets connectivity, and the accessibility of social
infrastructure, Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm as eco-city paradigm was selected as case study to compare with
a residential area in northern city of Dalian. Lessons from pedestrian friendly planning in Hammarby Sjöstad will
help our community to realize a green, ecological city model with open and humanized structure, and promote
residents to travel in green traffic modes, live with healthy lifestyle.
