Abstract

Outdoor space plays a fat part in human life, and the use of these Spaces depends largely on outdoor thermal comfort. The cities in northern China are defined as cold zone and severe cold zone in the Code for the thermal design of a civil buildings. In the cold zone and severe cold zone of China, outdoor space must provide a suitable thermal comfort level throughout the year in order to increase the utilization rate of outdoor space. Different thermal indexes have different effectiveness in different climatic zones, so it is necessary to select indexes according to the feasibility of each index in different regions. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of outdoor thermal comfort studies in northern China published from April 2005 to April 2020. Based on the development of various types of outdoor thermal comfort ndices, advantages and disadvantages of each index are introduced. It is hoped to help researchers at the research site in northern China to select appropriate outdoor thermal comfort indices.
