JAUE2017-127: Study on Design of the Chair using Parametric Design

Abstract

In recent years, a method of design known as algorithmic design is attracting much attention in parallel with the advances in computer-aided analysis technology. Parametric design is one algorithmic design methods. This research involves using a parametric design in the process of designing a stool. The elements that form the seat are used as variables, and derived the optimal shape from multiple models using a computer program. Furthermore, a survey was conducted to study how parameter changes affect the impression of a seat’s shape. As a result, a simple regularity was seen in the stool’s shape generated using parameters in this research it was found that the impact of appearance varies with parameters.
