The rapid development of information technology has brought wide effect on many filed in society. One of application using IT technology for city development is smart community.
A smart community is a community where various next-generation technologies and advanced social systems are
effectively integrated and utilized, including the efficient use of energy, utilization of heat and unused energy sources, improvement of local transportation systems and transformation of the everyday lives of citizens.The government push for smart communities follows a global green trend. After the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, energy alternatives to nuclear power have been heavily discussed in Japan and around the world, putting smart community in the spotlight. In this paper, we mainly carried a comparison study of smart community construction in the three regions (The Kitakyushu City in Japan, The Kingston City in UK and The Chicago City in USA), and analyze their infrastructure, energy consumption and the involvement of residents.
