Increasing renewable penetration poses challenge to the grid manager, such as grid stability, renewable
curtailment. With the advance of information communication technology, aggregated energy prosumers is
expected to play an vital role in real time energy balance with optimal demand side management. This paper
reviews the development of energy flexible building and grid interactive building. Firstly, describes the definition
and characteristics of the energy flexible building and grid interactive buildings, the main optimized control
techniques are introduced. Then the main assessment indicators for building energy flexibility are proposed.
Finally, we proposed the suggestions for better exploration of demand side flexibility.
