jaue2023+002: Potential Application of P-DfMA in AEC: A Bibliometric Analysis and Review

The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is adapting to the global demand through different approaches such as the development of the design for manufacturing and assembly platform (P-DfMA). P-DfMA is the application of standardizations into operational processes using technologies to provide a flexible system. There are limited available research papers about P-DfMA studies. For that, this study analyzed the journal articles, and conference papers, from Google Scholar, International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC), Scopus, and Web of Science databases, that cover P-DfMA, and its application using Bibliometric analysis, and visualized the results using JAVA-based VOSviewer software. After that, a systematic review was applied to determine the state-of-art and gaps. The final step of this research was to evaluate the results of the systematic analysis process by determining the reasons, and the future research direction of P-DfMA and its application. The findings of the research show that even the research papers that cover P-DfMA are still rare but also not deep enough because it’s still a new complicated system in the AEC industry. Further studies can provide strategies, and guidelines framework for the operation processes of P-DfMA with the supply chain, using technologies including BIM.
