As a global socio-economic problem, the phenomenon of urban shrinkage has attracted the attention of many scholars and urban planners. Accurately extracting urban built-up areas is crucial for addressing environmental issues related to rapid urban land use changes. This study uses NPP/VIIRS night light data, combined with social statistical data and land use data, analyzes the changes in the spatial pattern of urban built-up areas in Jilin Province, and identifies the evolution of the center of gravity of Jilin Province's population and urban shrinking. The results show that: The urban agglomeration in the central-southern direction with Changchun City as the core has a rapid urbanization process. The expansion level of the built-up areas in the north-south direction of Jilin Province is higher than that in the east and west, and the overall expansion is agglomerative; The center of gravity of the light mainly moves to the northeast, which is consistent with the direction of the economic center of gravity, and is obviously deviated from the direction of the population center of gravity; There is a high correlation between nighttime light intensity and built-up area, and the correlation between economic development and nighttime light intensity and built-up area is higher than the correlation between population and light and built-up area.
