Abstract

In this study, a field experiment was conducted to identify the actual condition of the loudness of the sound transmitted during the operation of the emergency public address system in buildings. The loudness levels and play times by section were analyzed and as a result, the loudness was measured to be 3 dB (SPL) higher in the section where the siren was played than in the section where the voice was played, and the voice play time was shown to be 14 seconds. longer than the siren play time. In the results of analysis of the overall loudness, the minimum value of the overall average was 73 dB (SPL) and the maximum value was 96 dB (SPL), indicating that the loudness levels were clearly different among buildings despite that the indoor sound environments and building areas were similar. The differences are occurring due to the lack of accurate standards for loudness in South Korea. Therefore, unifined regulations are considered necessary.
