Nowadays, nearly 36.11% of China's total population lives in rural areas. With the proposal and practical development of China's "rural revitalization" strategy, the needs of these residents for a better living environment have also been put on the agenda. In order to support the redevelopment and space optimization in rural areas in northern Shaanxi of China, the relationship between the characteristics of micro-climate and the planning form should be analyzed. In this study, two rural areas with distinct planning forms in northern China were selected as the research objects. The wind environment and thermal environment were measured using mobile weather stations and surface thermal camera. The urban typology of the two villages were analyzed according to the relationship between building layout and the surrounding geographic features. Combining the data of micro-climate and urban spatial information, the relationship between micro-climate and the planning, which refer to the traditional sustainable development concept in rural area could be summarized. Finally, the optimization method and design guidance for redevelopment or space optimization in rural areas could be proposed.
