The building envelope is divided into three parts: the external walls, the roof and the external doors and windows, and the energy loss through the building envelope accounts for 25% to 35% of the total energy consumption of the building [1]. Window and door systems account for 1/6 to 1/8 of the total area of the building envelope, while the energy lost through windows and doors is 5-6 times that of walls, accounting for about 40% to 50% of the total energy consumption of the building envelope [2]. In this study, based on a field survey of the current indoor thermal environment of coastal rural houses in Qingdao in winter, three window and door retrofit solutions were proposed. And numerical simulations of the three options were carried out by Energy plus building energy simulation software. The results show that the retrofitting options have significant effects on the improvement of the winter indoor thermal environment of the rural houses in coastal Qingdao.
