Changchun City is located in the northeast of China and suffers from water shortages. Rainwater harvesting is one of the most convenient ways to save water. However, the current situation of rainwater utilization in Changchun is an untapped area. Therefore, this paper proposes to use the urban water metabolism framework to evaluate the water resources performance of Changchun City. Firstly, the water metabolism framework of Changchun City in 2019 was established, and then, the water consumption performance indicators of Changchun City were analyzed by the water metabolism framework, and finally the water resources sustainability suggestions were made based on the obtained results. In 2019, the water intensity of Changchun City was 317m³/person/year, the internalization rate of water supply was only 5.8%, and the rainwater replacement potential was 653%. Rainwater can be used as an alternative water source to alleviate the pressure on Changchun’s water resources.
