With the rapid development of China's urbanization and the improvement of residents' living standards, the
energy consumption and carbon emissions of the construction industry are increasing. Zero energy building (ZNB) is gradually becoming a popular research issue in the building sector for energy saving and emission reduction, and is receiving attention from the academic community. This paper summarizes the research hotspots related to ZNB in China at the present stage based on the extraction of papers about ZNB research since 2000 from China Knowledge Network and the visualization of literature data through CiteSpace. It is found that the research on ZNB in China has continued to rise in popularity in recent years, and research in this field has mainly focused on ZNB policies and evaluation criteria, energy-saving technologies, and design strategies. Follow-up research should be based on climate and regional diversity, strengthen communication and cooperation between core teams and promote the crossover and integration of research methods between different disciplines in order to promote the further development of ZNB research.
