Abstract

Traditional dwelling has achieved harmony between building and climatic environment, which has the potential for sustainable development in rural residential buildings. However, few studies have concentrated on the thermal comfort and sensation. In this study, traditional dwellings in southwest part of Qinba mountainous area were selected as the research object, and a subjective sensation analysis on the indoor thermal environment was conducted. The result shows that residents are more satisfied with the indoor thermal environment in summer than in winter. The thermal comfort range and neutral temperature of residents in winter are 10.1 to 15.0℃ and 12.6℃ respectively. And the thermal comfort range and neutral temperature of residents in summer are 21.9 to 29.8℃ and 25.9°Crespectively. In winter, the predicted indoor neutral temperature is 17.0 °C, which is higher than the measured thermal neutral temperature of 12.6°C. In summer, the predicted indoor neutral temperature is 24.2°C, which is lower than the measured thermal neutral temperature of 25.9°C, showing that the residents have certain adaptability to the actual thermal environment. The result could be used as a database to guide the thermal comfort optimization of rural residences in hot summer and cold winter regions.
