Abstract

The continuous change of climates has led to increased global warming and extreme weather events. Architectural designers are facing this challenge, whether from the perspective of energy conservation and environment protection or improving thermal comfort. This paper attempts through a comparative analysis of the available literature to explore the thermal effects of building spatial layouts on the urban microclimate. We will summarize relevant research from three aspects, country, year and institution with the Web of Science Core Collection database as the data source. By analyzing the co-citation clustering of relevant literature to identify the hotspots and research lines of microclimate. The study found that the research of residential blocks microclimate is gradually being paid attention to. The annual number of papers is increasing yearly, and the research enthusiasm continues to increase. With the deepening and complexity of research, the trend of interdisciplinary scientific cooperation is gradually strengthening. The study also found that the vital research keywords in the recent ten years mainly include microclimate, wind environment, thermal environment, numerical simulation, comfort, etc. The research trends are ongoing research using numerical simulation techniques between microclimate and microscale morphological parameters.
