Abstract

Digital technology has introduced and impact building industry world-widely, especially in last decade, robotic arms as an ultimate digital fabrication tool, has been gradually introduced into architectural design and construction by pioneer architects, aims of merging the digital design and construction together, exploring a new integrated design method for architectural design. However, architectural education performs an insensitive reaction towards to this change, due to the long-standing classical teaching model represented by the Beaux-Arts. Nevertheless,DAM lab, as a self-organizing model, researchers and pioneer architects world widely in digital design, digital tectonics and robotic construction are organized into remote research networks, based on international collaborative workshop as a Platform for research results and practical case sharing. With the goal of combining teaching and research, the collaborative workshop can transform or further enhance existing research while exploring new teaching models suitable for digital construction and robotic construction. In April 2019, the 4th International collaborative workshop held at Qingdao University of Technology, DAM lab organized the teaching experiments based on robot 3D clay printing, robot wood assembling and robot 3D special printing experiments, exploring new teaching model on the topic of ‘Robotic Tectonics’.
