Abstract

Rising penetration of renewable energy in district or building energy system raises the need of energy flexibility, demand response is evidenced as cost-effective alternative to harness flexibility from demand-side efforts. Application of demand response control is drawing attentions and widely developed among building energy system. This article firstly introduced the definition and framework of demand response considering real-time load shifting and energy storage, flexibility exploration measures in building sector was mainly summarized into four aspects: building heat storage, air conditioning system, electrical equipment and energy storage equipment, and user behavior. Here we also introduced the evaluation approach and detailed indicator. The results also highlight optimal market design to encourage demand response that maximizes the social benefit Finally, we concluded future research and implication.
