Abstract

The majority of previous studies on sleep thermal comfort have focused on individuals who have resided in a specific location for an extended period and have adapted to the prevailing climate. However, there remains a paucity of research examining the adaptation of sleep thermal comfort. In this study, the subjective and objective sleep quality evaluations of individuals residing in Qingdao for less than one year and more than five years were analyzed through the use of empirical measurements and questionnaires. The findings indicated that the neutral temperature for long-term residents was higher than that for short-term residents prior to sleep onset, whereas the opposite was observed after awakening. Additionally, the sleep quality of short-term residents was superior to that of long-term residents, which may be attributed to the fact that short-term residents had lower psychological expectations, resulting in a more favorable sleep experience. This study offers theoretical support for understanding the thermal comfort of college students, examines the neutral temperature for different populations, and enhances energy utilization efficiency.
