Abstract

This study draws on Henri Lefebvre's urban theory to investigate the adaptability of residents in the demolition and renovation projects of Qingdao urban villages. In the context of large-scale urbanization and rural land acquisition, China has built rural resettlement housing in surrounding areas to accommodate local rural residents. In order to provide a perspective to understand this kind of urban village space, this study first introduces Lefebvre's theory of empty space and transparent space in detail, with special emphasis on their non-dialectical and non-politicized characteristics. These problem domains are deeply related to the real situation in China. Then, it turned to the study of the large-scale urban village project model and the implementation of the Hong Dao project. The author believes that Lefebvre's analysis provides a useful entry point, which can systematically summarize and sort out many problems in the renovation of urban villages, change the concept of space that only considers residential space as a "container", pay more attention to the sociological implications of space itself, and jump out of the thinking of studying space design and management operation from the perspective of planners and managers. More focus on the main body of rural resettlement to explore the production of space. By doing so, it is also possible to open up space for spatial practices as well as a more democratic vision of urban transformation.
