Keywords:

The Indonesian vernacular architecture has been passed down through generations without any formal documentation. The Joglo house, a hallmark of Javanese design, has been adapted and inherited by contemporary society, tailored to fit modern lifestyles. This study delves into two Pati’s Joglo houses, constructed 200 years ago and still standing in the coastal cities of Surabaya and Juwana in Indonesia. These houses have evolved over time, reflecting changes in both their physical surroundings and their inhabitants. The research seeks to understand the transformations in the Joglo house from its inception to the present. The study's approach considers the original context of the houses, including the climate, geography, and societal backdrop. The findings highlight the differences observed over time and how traditional architecture is interpreted by today's families.
