Abstract

The traditional mosques in Indonesia are not thoroughly understood, especially concerning their positions within the contexts that define them. A mosque should have a strong connection with the prevailing context, including its location. Therefore, this study aims to find the truth and the application of mosque architectural designs in coastal area of Indonesia. The method employed involves a literature study, comparing the changes in architectural aspects and functions of mosques in coastal areas of Indonesia with those from the era of the Prophet. The aspiration of this study is to comprehend the underlying context guiding mosque construction in coastal areas of Indonesia, as well as to understand the role of mosques within these coastal regions.
