jismart2023037: The Impact of Bangkalan Coastal Infrastructure Development on Taneyan Lanjhang

Abstract

The development of coastal infrastructure can lead to rapid modernization, presenting both opportunities and challenges to local cultures. This is evident in Bangkalan on Madura Island, where the traditional Taneyan Lanjhang architecture is experiencing the pressures of modernity. This study investigates the impact of Bangkalan's development on Taneyan Lanjhang, employing field and literature research to scrutinize how modernization may alter this indigenous vernacular architecture. Data from fieldwork will indicate which aspects of Taneyan Lanjhang remain unchanged, which are transformed, or which may be lost to modernization. This study hope to shed more light on the challenges or vurnerabilities of Taneyan Lanjhang in present day Bangkalan and also the potential of Taneyan Lanjhang to survive or even thrive along the modernization of Bangkalan. This finding hopefully will be beneficial in the conception of more strategic development plan of Bangkalan.
