Abstract

Urbanization and historical conservation in Tibet have resulted in residential spatial differentiation in residential historic districts. Although residential spatial differentiation can have a significant impact on the heritage identity of residents in residential historic districts, the mechanism of its action has not yet been sufficiently studied. Based on the empirical data of the typical case in Tibet, this study took the social-spatial perspective as the main approach of research, and used regression models to analyze the impact of residential spatial differentiation on the heritage identity of residential historic districts. The study found that type of housing ownership, heritage distribution, and the form of stores are the main dimension of residential space differentiation, affects the heritage identity of inhabitants in residential historic districts, while human capital factors such as age, ethnicity, and average annual household income work together. On this basis, we put forward policy recommendations from the aspects of promoting mixed living patterns, further enhancing the quality of residential buildings and establishing community participation mechanisms, with a view to promoting the heritage identity of residential historic districts.
