Abstract

Urban commuting is an important reflection of the urban occupational and residential structure, and a good occupational and residential vitality structure can reduce the cost of commuting, optimize the urban structure and promote intensive urban development. Transportation elements have an impact on urban job and residence structure. In this paper, we take Nanjing as a case study, and quantify the influence of transportation elements on urban work-life vitality structure based on LBS data and from the perspective of personal commuting. By quantifying the influencing factors such as transportation elements and ground rent elements, we use geoprobe technology to detect the influence on the change of commuting distance and conduct spatial characterization of commuting behavior. The conclusions are as follows: transportation elements mainly play an important influence in long-distance commuting, which contributes to the construction of urban structure and interconnection between regions. Land rent factors, such as house prices, mainly play a role in short-distance commuting and contribute to the formation of occupational/residential balance in commuting circles.
