Abstract

The application of Passive House (PH) in China presents both significant advantages and obstacles. This paper conducts a brief review of the development and localization of the PH in China. This paper mainly discussed the localized design standards of PH, the incremental costs of the key technologies of PH, the adaptability of Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system in PH, and the alignment between design intentions and operational outcomes. The study identifies that the challenges of the localization of the PH in China are mainly reflected in the following three aspects: the high initial cost, the adaptability of occupants to MVHR systems, and the uncertain operational performance of the PH. To overcome the challenges, it is necessary to address the technical, cost, regulatory, and cultural issues. With the support of policies, increased awareness, and continued technological advancements, PH can play a significant role in promoting sustainable development in China.
