Abstract

With rapid urbanization and rising living standards in Guangdong, China, the importance of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) has become a critical focus for improving the well-being of residents. Guangdong's subtropical climate, characterized by high temperatures and humidity, means that people spend a significant portion of their time indoors, making indoor environmental conditions paramount for their health, comfort, productivity, and overall quality of life. Despite the growing recognition of the need for better indoor environments, comprehensive guidelines or frameworks specifically tailored to the hot and humid conditions of Guangdong are still lacking. This study addresses this gap by proposing a framework for enhancing IEQ in residential buildings in Guangdong. The framework is based on five key aspects: physical, chemical, biological, psychological, and human-centered care environments. The study introduces two levels of implementation: Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Technical Measures that collectively guide the creation of high-quality indoor environments in residential buildings, with a focus on maintaining sustainable, healthy, and comfortable living conditions in the region.
