Abstract

At present, with the acceleration of urban-rural integration in China, urban and rural planning is facing new challenges and opportunities. This is an important transformation stage for urban and rural planning professional education, especially for the higher requirements for the professional literacy and thinking ability of planning talents. For many years, the teaching of lower grades in urban planning has been equivalent to that of lower grades in architecture, which has made it difficult for students to adapt to the learning of higher-level urban planning courses. In response to the root cause of this issue, this paper analyzes the obstacles encountered in the basic teaching of urban planning in terms of "ontology," "cognition," and "methodology." It proposes measures for the reform of teaching in the lower grades of urban planning majors, strengthens the cultivation of students' planning thinking and design abilities, and combines pedagogy of basic urban planning and design to propose practical and feasible teaching methods.
