Abstract

The atrium space of public buildings is the interim place of indoor and outdoor environment, which is conducive to natural ventilation and daylighting. However, when the ventilation is poor in summer, the greenhouse effect will lead to indoor overheating. In this paper, the thermal environment of the atrium space of a university teaching building in Tianjin is measured and the distribution of the thermal environment is analyzed. It is found that there are some problems in the atrium space, such as vertical temperature gradient distribution, hot air accumulation at the top and poor indoor thermal comfort. The article uses CFD’s Phoenics digital simulation technology to analyse the influence of natural ventilation of skylight on thermal environment and indoor cooling effect in summer. The results show that increasing the height of skylight, adopting sloping roof and wind guide components with pressurized and accelerated air flow are conducive to improve natural ventilation, effectively reduce indoor air temperature and improve vertical temperature distribution.
