Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) as the most advanced data visualization techniques have recently started to influence our lives. With the development of architecture, engineering, construction industry (AEC) and the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, Architects introduce AR and VR into AEC to meet the diverse needs of occupants. In the immersive virtual environment, architects and occupants can generate effective communication and save construction costs. Meantime, in the post-epidemic era, virtual environments can avoid close human contact while bringing people real environmental experience. This paper focuses on the current situation and development trend of AR and VR used in architectural design stage, shows through the case of HouseNA, compared with 2D drawings and 3D models in the traditional design stage, the intervention of AR and VR in the design can make users or non-architectural professionals better understand the space created by the architect. In conclusion, AR and VR as new technology means, there are still many limitations in the technology itself, but still can create a qualified virtual environment for testing the overall effectiveness of architectural design, improving the building life cycle, reducing construction costs, promoting the development of the whole construction industry.
