Abstract

Recently, the issue of shrinking cities is under heated discussion in the domain of urban and planning studies around the world. At present, the definition of "shrinking city" mainly focuses on population, but correspondingly, in the fields of economy, society, space, etc., the extension and connotation of its definition are also constantly developing. In terms of spatial characteristics, the shrinking cities could be divided into two types, namely “perforated shrinking cities” and “doughnut shrinking cities”. Nowadays, the problem of urban shrinkage in Northeast China has also attracted the attention of many scholars, and the related research literature has shown an increasing trend. Under this background, this paper analyzes the relevant domestic literature results from the concept and connotation of urban shrinkage, the changing trend and spatial distribution of urban shrinkage, and the influencing factors of urban shrinkage, and provides solutions and reasonable suggestions for the subsequent urban shrinkage in Northeast China.
