China has promised the world that it will reach the carbon peak by 2030 and achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060 (“dual carbon” goal). The carbon emission from the construction industry (CECI) is an essential task forrealizing the “dual carbon” goal. This study establishes a framework to quantify the CECI at the city scale, and hybrid Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition method has been used to carry out a decomposition analysis to trace driving factors of carbon emissions. The results show that the main driving factors of carbon emission growth are the new built area effect (187%) and the regional effect of resources (106%), the energy intensity effect makes a significant contribution to restraining carbon emission growth (229%). Some suggestions are putting forward, reduce new built area, adopt building renovation for urban renewal; adjust the source of materials, purchase low-carbon building materials and strengthen the monitoring of carbon emissions from the building materials sector; adjust the energy consumption structure, improve the ratio of low-carbon energy
