JiSMART2021—032: Greenery Effect on Summer Outdoor Thermal Environment of Elderly Facilities

Abstract

The degree of aging and the amounts of elderly facilities is rapidly increasing in China. To improve the elderly’s outdoor thermal comfort of elderly facilities, taking the case of Tianjin, the influence law of greenery on outdoor thermal environment in summer was clarified, as well as the demand characteristics of the elderly for outdoor thermal environment were mastered, and the thermal comfort range based on SET* index was established, based on the field measurement and questionnaire survey of several representative elderly facilities. The results show that greenery created a great outdoor thermal environment for the elderly to spend time outdoors in the summer, whether it was a sunny or cloudy day. Even though the outdoor temperature in Tianjin was high in summer, the comfort and acceptance degree of the elderly is high. When the SET* value was 24.1~27.6°C of environment, the elderly had higher outdoor comfort in summer. It is expected that this study could provide theoretical basis and data support for the summer outdoor thermal environment consruction of elderly facilities in Tianjin
