JWACA2025-029: Honghe Hani Rice Terraces School
Keywords:
agricultural heritage, light-touch design, cultural preservation, ecological integration, vernacular architectureAbstract
This project constructs a preservation and education school within the UNESCO-listed Honghe Hani Rice Terraces in Yunnan. The design adopts a light-touch approach, dividing the building into two volumes to minimize visual impact and blend with the local village scale. It metaphorically reflects the terraced landscape and the "four-element" ecological structure (forest, water, village, terraces), using local materials and construction wisdom to create spaces for exhibition, training, and cultural transmission, fostering dialogue between architecture and agricultural heritage.
