Abstract

The Guoqing Temple in Shanghai's Pudong district is a contemporary religious complex designed by Shen Chi. The project employs wood-formed fair-faced concrete to achieve a minimalist yet profound aesthetic. Despite initial construction challenges, the temple's walls and structures have become a testament to the authenticity and natural beauty of the material. The design respects traditional Buddhist architecture while introducing modern elements, creating a serene and contemplative environment. The project underscores the importance of patience and resilience in architectural practice, highlighting the temple's role as a spiritual and cultural hub.
