Abstract

As China's urbanization development into its middle and late stages, the focus is shifting from new urban development to the renewal of existing assets, marking a transition into the "stock era." Refurbishing existing buildings is more environmentally sustainable than constructing new ones. However, the current research on carbon emissions has predominantly focuses on the urban and building levels, with relatively little research on existing residential areas, and has not yet formed a set of systematic theoretical system for energy saving and carbon reduction in the renovation of old residential areas. In this paper, the energy saving carbon reduction model for retrofitting older neighborhoods was discussed, and the carbon emission calculation model for the retrofit process was presented. These models offer valuable insights for stakeholders, including policymakers, building owners, and facility managers, aiding in the optimization of resource maintenance and contributing to the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable built environment.
