Abstract

Population mobility has greatly changed China's urbanization process. This paper uses national census data, statistical yearbook data to explore the spatial and temporal changes of population mobility patterns in urban China from 2000 to 2018. The results indicate that compared with 2000-2010, the choice of mobility destinations in 2010-2018 has changed significantly. The population began to shift from the eastern coastal areas to inland cities, while second and third-tier cities have also become new mobility destinations. In the context of the continued slowdown of China's economic and population growth in the future, how to attract population inflows has become the critical of urban policymakers. The analysis of this paper aims to provide a certain reference for urban development and urban policy making.
