Abstract

During the last two decades there has been increasing concern within the scientific community over the effects
of indoor air quality(IAQ) on health. Many scientists in the world have started their studies on the pollution of
indoor air, but there is nowadays no single fully satisfactory method for VOCs removal from indoor air due to the
difficulties linked to the very low concentration (μg·m
−3 range) and diversity at which VOCs are typically found in
the indoor environment. In this paper, the review of VOCs, formaldehyde and benzene pollutions in families was
summarized. After comparing and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of various treatments, such as
activated carbon fiber (ACF) filter, ozone oxidation, photocatalytic filter, and biological treatment. Activated
carbon fiber (ACF) filter is a relatively common method in air pollution removal, and its post-processing costs are
higher, it’s easy to form secondary pollution. Ozone is generated to oxidize pollutants, it’s also easy to form
secondary pollution and costs are higher. Photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) method and biological method have
shown a certain potential for this purpose, they can both use to control indoor air pollutions or outdoor air
pollutions. In addition, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) method and biological method are the fastest growing and
the most widely used techniques in recent years because of their high removal efficiencies for most VOCs
