With the rising prices of the retail electricity and the decreasing cost of the PV technology, grid parity with commercial electricity
will soon become a reality in Europe .If a household uses his own PV generated energy, it will save the money that would have
otherwise paid as retail price. In this case, grid parity is forecast for the 2013–2014 in some European countries. This review paper
summarizes existing research on PV self-consumption and options to improve it. There have two solutions to increasing
self-consumption, including: energy storage and demand side management (DSM). And this paper will compare different results of
researching about self-consumption in various countries. The combination of storage with Demand-Side Management significantly
improves the local use of PV, thus increasing the PV value for the user. Self-Consumption serves as an important energy management
strategy, reducing the electricity transport and encouraging the user to control his energy behavior .Further research should be
focused on the deeply research for improving DSM potential and optimal operation of storage.
