This paper introduces technology analysis and optimization method to deal with energy efficient window in order to study the effects of window choices on minimizing the energy consumption and maximize the useful daylight illuminance for office buildings. Through using building simulation modeling, various window properties such as U-value, and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) are evaluated with different window-to-floor ratios (WFR) and orientations in cold climate zones of china: Beijing. By means of a regression analysis, simple charts for the relationship between window properties, building form and building energy performance are presented as a function of U-value, SHGC, WFR, orientation and building form. As a design guideline in selecting energy saving windows for different office building forms, an optimized window system for cold climate is plotted on detailed charts.
