Shortage of interior air ventilation occurs due to high level of air tightness and insulation of constructions. In case of con sistent ventilation in apartment houses, even if fresh air increases, the ventilation can cause problems of air conditioning overload increase and cold draft. Consequently energy efficiency of air conditioning is expected to accompany both above average indoor air quality and pleasant thermal environment. In this regard, one of well-known solutions is ERV system (Energy Recovery Ventilator System). ERV system was regulated mandatorily to secure the energy efficiency and the opti mum level of ventilation of newly-built apartment houses in Korea. Majority of householders, however, were not aware of the importance of effective operation. On this account, a survey targeting householders of apartment houses was conducted to investigate their awareness of ERV system. This study proceeds in following order. To begin with investigating householders’ awareness level of ERV system, a part of questionnaire was carried out covering a section of householders’ awareness of ERV system, a section of current situation of ERV system operation, and a section of energy efficiency of air conditioning operating ERV system. Next, to analyze user awareness, the survey results were processed by crossover analysis, chi-squared test, and analysis of mean after profiling. If apartment householders’ efficient operation increases based on their awareness survey of ERV system, it can be a useful solution for decrease of household air conditioning overload, coping with change of outdoor condition and indoor overload.
