Abstract

As urbanization continued to progress, older neighborhoods became central to various challenges in urban development. As a result, urgent measures were required to tackle issues like deteriorating infrastructure, environmental degradation, and weakening community bonds. Of particular importance was the communication space, which played a vital role as the primary location for social interactions among the elderly residents. This space was pivotal due to its inclusivity, accessibility, comfort, and empathetic design. The primary objective of this study was to improve residents' quality of life and foster neighborly integration. To achieve this, the research employed Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory as a conceptual framework, strategically guiding the design of interaction spaces within old neighborhoods. Through an exploration of effective ways to cater to the diverse needs of residents, the study provided valuable insights for the revitalization of aging neighborhoods and also served as a reference for future urban renewal initiatives.
