Abstract

In China, around 100 villages are disappearing every day as a result of urbanization, resulting in the abandonment of a large number of houses, facilities, and farming land etc. In this study, based on the concept of sustainable development, we used Building Information Modeling(BIM) technology to design and renovate an abandoned village elementary school with the aim of Zero Energy Building (ZEB). First, we analyzed the local climate, and then transformed the original space into a layout that was more appropriate for the climate, allowing for more natural lighting and natural ventilation. Then, for each element of each space, conditions were established, including but not limited to insulating the walls and installing high-performance building equipment in the rooms. Finally, the energy consumption of the building was simulated and tested to determine whether the energy efficiency goals were met. As a result, this building can reduce energy consumption by over 75.8% compared to before renovation, and it achieves “Nearly ZEB” performance.
