Abstract

We developed game-type teaching materials that could be studied even in the upper grades of elementary school students and verified the effectiveness of the developed teaching materials in promoting environmentally conscious behavior. First, a game-type educational material on environmentally conscious behavior in the home was created. The game was a card game in which four teams of two or three players play against each other. The game was then taught to 6th -grade elementary school students. Questionnaires were administered before and after the class to compare the students' knowledge of the study content and their willingness to engage in environmentally conscious behavior. The text-type teaching material was also created as a comparison for the survey, and a similar survey was conducted to compare the results. The survey results showed that the game-type materials were rated higher in terms of class enjoyment, positivity, willingness to learn, and collaboration. In addition, the amount of knowledge of environmentally conscious behavior increased for all students who took the class before and after the class. This confirmed the learning effectiveness of the developed game teaching materials. Furthermore, compared to the text materials, the students using the game materials showed stronger motivation for environmentally conscious behavior
