Abstract

Sustainability has become the driven factor of global direction to be more concern and conscious. In architecture,searching for sustainable material is always the way to answer the current trend. Bamboo has gained more popular as a choice because of that, due to its renewable. Bamboos are found around the world, especially in Tropical and Coastal areas. We have seen many bamboo architecture are interestingly designed in many countries. Many of interests are gathered around East and Southeast Asia. Each region has their own way of creating things, due to their available technology, culture, social aspects, and belief. The study is looking at ways of bamboo architecture are created and how they are linked to design derivation of the vernacularism, environment, and influent factor of each region. The study will be looking into Bamboo architecture in China, India, Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. They are abundant bamboo countries, and have been many interesting bamboo architecture projects created, and with distinctive and various styles. The study will analyze and find rationality and concept how bamboo architecture are created differently and tying to their locality. The comparison will be made to see similarity and contrast though they are within bamboo region. Before moving on the future sustainability design of bamboo architecture, it will be important to see how the existing creations are connected the root and wisdom of each culture.
