Abstract

In recent years, vinyl wallpapers which are inexpensive and easy to construct are generally used as interior finishes of the buildings. But most of them have no breathability and humidity control, so they may worsen the indoor environment. In these situations, traditional materials have been reviewed because of their various environment adjustment performances. Surveyed materials in this paper are NHL(=Natural Hydraulic Lime) which is a traditional building material in Europe, plaster which is a traditional building material in Japan, and shell lime which is made from scallop shell. Evaluations about the improvement
effects of the indoor air quality such as humidity control, smell resistance, VOC absorption, and fungus resistance were carried out. As a result, it has become clear that lime materials have good environmental performances and bring about many effects of the improvement of the indoor air quality.
