Abstract

Continuing the vitality of Chinese seaweed house dwellings can provide useful reference for sustainable architectural development, and the key to it is the study of the thermal environment and comfort. In this study, the winter thermal environment and comfort of seaweed houses in Dazhuang Xujia Village was investigated from February 1-5, 2023 through a field survey. The results showed that the thermal experience and expectation of seaweed house residents have shown adjustment in the adaptation environment, and the thermal neutral temperature of seaweed house dwellings in winter is 14°C, the acceptable temperature region is 9.8-17.2°C. Meanwhile, drinking hot water, wearing more clothes, sunbathing, and warming up while sitting on the home-burning fire kangs are common thermal adaptation behaviors of the seaweed house dwellers. The results of the study enriched the database of thermal comfort studies of Chinese residential houses, and provide basic information for the conservation and renewal of seaweed houses.
