JWACA2023-002: Concept and Case of Circular Architecture
Keywords:
Circular economy, Modular prefabrication, Lifecycle optimizationAbstract
This paper introduces Circular Architecture, a framework combining ecological sustainability and economic viability through resource-efficient design. Two experimental Japanese residences—W-PRH (wooden prefab) and S-PRH (steel modular)—demonstrate 90% material recyclability via modular assembly, renewable energy systems, and lifecycle optimization. The W-PRH employs passive strategies (natural ventilation, solar heating) and biomass energy, while S-PRH integrates IoT-controlled HVAC and recycled materials (e.g., plastic staircases). The study critiques linear construction models and advocates for closed-loop systems to decouple economic growth from environmental impact. Metrics show 66% energy reduction and 25% CO2 cuts, underscoring scalability for urban sustainability
