Abstract

How should we approach urban renewal design in the context of historic cities? It is essential to consider three core concepts: "cultural continuity," "people-centered urbanism," and "design leadership." By learning from historical culture and responding wisely to the needs of the people, we can effectively guide urban renewal processes. In response, we propose a composite, multidimensional urban renewal model based on the transition from "memory" to "technology"—CEDOTA (Culture, Evaluation, Demand, Operate, Technology, Activation). This model advocates confronting the collective memory of the city with reverence while utilizing architectural skills to enhance the value of urban land, streets, and buildings, thereby promoting efficient and refined urban development. Six specific strategies are implemented: cultural empowerment, value assessment, focus on critical issues, preemptive operational planning, urban repair, and scenario creation.
