Abstract

The China Pavilion at the 2015 Milan Expo is a pioneering architectural work that embodies the theme "Hopeful Fields, the Source of Life." The design features a unique blend of traditional Chinese architectural elements and modern construction techniques. The pavilion's structure is inspired by the traditional Chinese loft, with a "deep facade" that evokes the image of mountains. The building is elevated to offer visitors multiple perspectives of the "fields," integrating a vast LED "wheat field" and an open-air corridor that allows natural light and air to permeate the interior. The use of a hybrid timber and steel structure, along with a perforated bamboo skin, reduces energy consumption while providing a contemporary interpretation of traditional Chinese architecture.
